Why We Evolved

From Host Family
to Full Immersion.

Our original host family program was founded on one powerful idea: the fastest way to learn English is to live inside the language. We haven't abandoned that idea — we've amplified it into something extraordinary. Today's Akimeygo programs give you the warmth of human connection, the rigour of professional education, and the breadth of an entire nation as your classroom. The host family experience was the seed. What we've grown is a forest.

Phased, Purposeful Structure — Not Improvised

Every day follows a deliberate arc: immersion → cultural exploration → professional refinement → independent confidence. You don't drift — you progress, visibly and measurably, every single day.

All of Ghana — Not Just One Home

Our 30-day programs include a 10-day national cultural tour across Ghana's most vivid locations. Accra, the coast, historical sites, living communities. The whole country becomes your teacher.

Cohort Bonds That Last a Lifetime

You arrive with 3–12 strangers. You leave with people who shared something genuinely transformative together. That cohort bond — built under real pressure, real conversation, real vulnerability — is irreplaceable.

Measurable Results with a Certificate to Prove It

You start with an English assessment on Day 1. You end with an official Akimeygo certificate. Your progress is documented, your achievement recognized, your confidence real and lasting.

Enrollment Policy

How Group Enrollment Works

Our cohort model keeps programs intimate, personal, and affordable. Here is exactly how pricing and placement works based on your group size — fully transparent, no surprises.

2people

A Pair — We Have the Perfect Solution

Two participants fall below our group minimum of 3, so standard pricing doesn't apply. Our solution is perfectly tailored: the Elite Ghana package is designed precisely for smaller groups — private rooms, personal teacher sessions, dedicated coordinator, and a fully curated premium experience built around two people. Alternatively, you can apply individually to join an open cohort from other countries.

Elite Ghana Strongly Advised
3–6people

The Ideal Group — Best Value & Best Experience

This is our sweet spot. Groups of 3–6 unlock full standard pricing, receive maximum individual attention from the program teacher and coordinator, and benefit from the close-knit cohort dynamic where everyone knows each other within the first two hours. This is where the real magic consistently happens — small enough to be personal, large enough to be dynamic.

Standard Pricing · Best Value
7–12people

Large Group — Custom Pricing & Dedicated Support

Larger groups are warmly welcome and well-catered for. We assign a dedicated group coordinator, negotiate custom pricing based on group size and commitment, and can accommodate corporate teams, school delegations, church groups, and organized travel cohorts from NGOs and professional associations. Contact us directly — we will make it work.

The Speak Ghana program was built for people who want to break the fear of speaking English — fast. Day-By-Day Complete Program Breakdown
Start
Day 1 — Arrival & Orientation
Welcome to Ghana. Let's Begin.
Your Akimeygo coordinator picks you up from Kotoka International Airport and takes you directly to your accommodation. After settling in, you join a 2–3 hour orientation session covering the city, program schedule, safety, communication, and getting around. The day closes with your first group dinner — the beginning of friendships that will carry the program.
Airport pickup by dedicated coordinator
Accommodation check-in and room orientation
Full welcome orientation session (2–3 hours)
English level assessment — written + spoken (stress-free)
Group introductions and cohort bonding
Welcome group dinner together
W1
Days 2–7 — "Live the Language"
Immersion Bootcamp — Real English in Real Situations
Six days of pure immersion. No grammar books. No conjugation tables. You use English from the moment you wake up — ordering food, navigating markets, interviewing strangers on the street, describing what you see, asking for help. Daily structured challenges push you just past your comfort zone. Evening reflection circles help your cohort process what worked and what didn't. Your brain learns fastest when there is no escape hatch back to your native language.
Daily structured speaking challenges at real Accra locations
Morning workbook sessions — vocabulary, expressions, listening
Afternoon real-world English tasks (market, café, neighbourhood)
Cultural site visits across Accra with English documentation tasks
Evening group reflection circles — share, analyse, progress
Personal vocabulary journal maintained throughout the week
⚡ The goal of immersion week is not perfection — it is fearlessness and fluency. Speaking incorrectly with confidence beats silent perfectionism every single time.
W2
Days 8–9 — "Refine"
Teacher-Led Refinement — Correct, Polish, Elevate
Now that you have 6 days of real-world immersion inside your system, a professional English teacher joins your cohort for two focused days of targeted correction and elevation. The teacher works on the specific patterns, mistakes, and gaps that actually emerged during your immersion — not a generic curriculum designed for imaginary students, but lessons built around the real errors your cohort is actually making.
2 hours structured classroom lessons per day
2–3 hours of guided practical application with teacher present
Grammar correction targeting your cohort's specific weaknesses
Pronunciation correction, fluency drills, speaking patterns
Individual written feedback on each participant's language patterns
Presentation skills preparation for Day 10
Done
Day 10 — Graduation Ceremony
You Made It. Now Show the World.
The final day begins with each participant delivering a short spoken presentation in English to the full cohort — covering what you experienced, what you learned, and what you're taking home. The teacher provides individual feedback. Official certificates are presented at a formal ceremony. The evening closes with a farewell dinner — and the beginning of friendships that typically last years.

Four-Phase Complete Program Breakdown
P1
Phase 1 · Days 1–7 — "Ignite"
Immersion Bootcamp — Survival Fluency from Day One
The first seven days are about breaking the barrier. No grammar books. Just English, everywhere, all the time. You arrive, you are assessed, and by Day 2 you are already using English to navigate Accra. Survival fluency means: you can eat, move, buy, communicate, and be understood. By Day 7, you will have done all of those things dozens of times and your brain will have begun to rewire itself accordingly.
Arrival orientation + English level assessment
Daily structured speaking challenges at real Accra locations
Morning workbook sessions — vocabulary, expressions, listening
Afternoon tasks: navigating, negotiating, connecting in English
Cultural site visits around Accra with English tasks
Evening reflection circles — process, analyse, progress together

Phase 2 · Days 8–17 — "The Part That Makes Us Unique"
Ghana National Cultural Tour — 10 Days Across the Country
A 10-day guided tour across Ghana's most significant, beautiful, and meaningful locations. This is what separates our program from every other English course on the continent. You are not in a classroom. You are in Ghana — at its coast, its historical sites, its living communities — using English at every step. Accommodation on all tour nights is fully covered. Meals on tour days are a personal choice — and intentionally so, as eating at local spots is itself a core cultural learning experience.
Cape Coast Castle and the Atlantic Route — history and English documentation
Kakum National Park canopy walkway experience
Local coastal fishing villages — community interactions in English
Elmina historical sites and guided cultural walk
Local markets — negotiate, buy, and connect entirely in English
All tour accommodation, transport, and entry fees included

Teacher-Led Refinement — Grammar, Fluency, Professional Polish
Now that you have two weeks of real-world English use inside your system — markets, historical sites, strangers, travel — a professional teacher joins your cohort for seven days of targeted correction and professional elevation. The teacher works on the exact patterns that emerged during immersion, raising your level from functional to genuinely impressive.
2 hours structured daily lessons with professional teacher
Grammar correction targeting your cohort's actual weaknesses
Pronunciation correction, fluency drills, mock conversations

Why Ghana?

Eight Reasons Ghana is
the World's Best Country to Learn English

You can find English programs anywhere. Here is why Ghana specifically — and why Akimeygo's location matters as much as the program itself.

🇬🇭

English is the Official Language

Ghana's official national language is English. Not a second language. Not a business language. The official language — used in government, schools, business, media, and everyday conversation. Total immersion is automatic from the moment you land.

100% English Environment
🤝

Ghanaians Are Famously Welcoming

Ghana has a global reputation for hospitality. Ghanaians love to talk, to explain, to help, and to connect. As a visitor wanting to practice English, you will find thousands of willing conversation partners — in markets, streets, restaurants, and every public space you enter.

Natural Daily Practice
🏰

Rich History Makes Every Conversation Count

Cape Coast Castle, Elmina, Kakum National Park, Kente weaving centres, the Ashanti heritage sites — Ghana has a cultural and historical depth that gives every English conversation context, substance, and emotional resonance. You are not practicing about nothing. You are talking about things that matter.

💰

50–70% More Affordable Than UK, USA, or Canada

Comparable English immersion programs in the United Kingdom or Canada cost two to three times more for less experience and less cultural depth. Ghana delivers a richer, more authentic, more immersive result — at a fraction of the price. Your investment goes further here than anywhere else.

50–70% Cost Saving vs. Western Programs
✈️

Easy Access from Francophone West Africa

Ghana borders Togo, which borders Benin and Côte d'Ivoire. Flights from Cotonou, Abidjan, Dakar, Ouagadougou, and Lomé are short and frequent. ECOWAS citizens require no visa for up to 90 days. Ghana is, for francophone West Africans, the most accessible English-speaking country in the world.

No Visa for ECOWAS Citizens · 90 Days
🛡️

Safe, Stable, Tourist-Friendly

Ghana is consistently ranked among Africa's most stable and safe countries for visitors. It has a functioning democracy, a well-established tourism infrastructure, and a long tradition of welcoming international visitors. You can focus entirely on learning — not on looking over your shoulder.

🌆

Modern Infrastructure in Accra

Accra has Uber, reliable WiFi, international restaurants, well-maintained roads, good medical facilities, and every amenity a modern traveller needs. You are immersed in a vibrant African city — but you are not roughing it. Comfort and culture exist here in balance.

🎵

Afrobeats, Art, and Creative Energy

Ghana's creative culture — the birthplace and beating heart of Afrobeats — makes English come alive in music, conversation, humour, and storytelling. Language absorbs faster when it is attached to joy. Ghana has more of that per square metre than almost anywhere on earth.

★★★★★
"I arrived terrified of making mistakes in English. I had studied for years but the moment someone spoke to me, I froze. By Day 4 in Accra I was ordering food, asking for directions, negotiating in the market. By Day 10 I stood in front of our cohort and gave a five-minute speech about what Ghana meant to me. In English. Without notes. I still cannot fully explain what happened to me in those 10 days, but it was real and it was permanent."

"I am an entrepreneur. I had been trying to close my first international English-speaking client for two years. The deal kept failing because my English made me sound less credible than I was. Three months after Elite Ghana, I closed a contract with a UK firm worth more than I had earned in the previous twelve months. I credit the private teacher sessions and the structured immersion with changing how I present myself in English forever."

"I was 22 and taking a gap year. My parents thought I was being reckless going to Ghana alone for a month. I came back with an official certificate, a friendship group spanning four countries, a video diary of the Cape Coast experience that I have watched at least 30 times since, and an English level that got me into a UK university program I was told I was not qualified for. Ghana changed the direction of my life. I say that calmly because it is simply true."

"We came as a group of three colleagues from the same company in Cotonou. None of us spoke English confidently. Six months after returning from Discover Ghana, our company renegotiated a major UK supply contract entirely in English — without a translator in the room for the first time in our company's history. Our CEO called it a turning point. We called it Ghana."

"I took Elite Ghana specifically because I wanted to sit the IELTS exam for my UK visa application and I needed a 7.0 speaking score. The combination of the immersion phases, the private teacher sessions, and the sheer volume of English conversation I had every single day — not in a classroom but in real life — gave me not just confidence but vocabulary and fluency I could not have developed in lessons alone. I scored 7.5. I was aiming for 7.0."

"The Cape Coast experience during Phase 2 was unlike anything I have ever done in my life. Standing inside that castle, our cohort speaking English to each other and to the guide, processing what we were hearing and seeing — it is the most powerful language learning experience I can imagine, because the language was carrying something that mattered enormously. I cried. Several of us did. And then we had dinner by the ocean and talked for four hours in English about everything we had felt. I will never forget that evening."
🌊 The Cape Coast experience: unforgettable, unrepeatable, life-changing.

Three Daily Meals (When at Base)

Halal, vegetarian and dietary requirements accommodated
All Transportation
All in-city transport throughout your entire program is covered. For 30-day programs, all inter-city transport during the 10-day national cultural tour is also fully included — coaches, shared taxis, and all ground transport between tour locations. You never pay separately for transport within the program.
Inter-city transport included on 30-day tours
WiFi Throughout
Reliable WiFi access at all accommodation facilities, all program bases, and where available on tour. You can stay connected with family, access translation tools, document your journey, and communicate without needing a local SIM card for basic connectivity. Data-heavy streaming is not guaranteed, but standard use is fully covered.
All Cultural Site Entry Fees
Every scheduled attraction, historical site, national park, museum, and cultural venue on your program itinerary is pre-paid and included. Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park, Elmina, local community visits — every entry fee is covered. You never reach a gate and have to pay separately for anything on the schedule.
Professional English Teacher
A qualified, experienced English teacher joins your cohort for dedicated structured sessions — 2 days for Speak Ghana, 7 days for Discover and Elite, plus 4 additional private sessions for Elite Ghana participants. The teacher tailors lessons to your cohort's actual needs, not a generic curriculum. Individual written feedback is provided to each participant.
Elite adds 4 private 1-on-1 sessions
Student Workbook & Materials
A printed Akimeygo student workbook is included in every program — yours to keep, annotate, and take home. It contains vocabulary banks, speaking challenge prompts, reflection templates, cultural context notes, and a personal progress journal section. Many participants tell us they still refer to their workbook months after returning home.
Official Completion Certificate
An official Akimeygo English Immersion Program certificate, presented in a formal ceremony on your final day. You receive both a physical certificate to frame or carry, and a digital version for your LinkedIn, email signature, CV, or university application. The certificate confirms program, duration, level assessment, and completion date.
Suitable for CVs, LinkedIn, university applications
English Level Assessment
On Day 1, every participant completes a relaxed English level assessment — both written and spoken. This is not a test designed to judge you; it is a tool designed to help your teacher and coordinator personalise your experience. Your starting level is documented, meaning your growth by Day 10 or Day 30 is measurable and verifiable.
Dedicated Program Coordinator
Your coordinator is present from airport pickup to final farewell. They manage logistics, handle any unexpected issues, guide cultural activities, connect you with Accra, and ensure the program runs smoothly for every participant every day. Elite Ghana participants are assigned a personal coordinator exclusively dedicated to their group.
Elite Ghana: personal coordinator assigned to your group only
Pre-Arrival Welcome Pack
Before you arrive, you receive a comprehensive pre-arrival pack covering everything you need to know — what to pack, what to expect, how to get your visa (if applicable), Ghana cultural norms and etiquette, local currency, recommended preparation steps, and a day-by-day preview of your program. You arrive prepared, confident, and ready.

Why Ghana

Eight Reasons Ghana is the Best Place on Earth to Learn English

We didn't choose Ghana arbitrarily. Every reason below is a deliberate advantage that no classroom can replicate — and that most competing programs don't offer.

🗣️

English is Ghana's Official Language

Not just taught — lived. Every shop, every restaurant, every matatu driver, every market vendor speaks English. Total immersion is not a programme feature. It is Ghana's everyday reality. The moment you land, you're inside the language.

24/7 English environment
🤝

Ghanaians Are Famously Warm & Welcoming

Ghana's global reputation for hospitality is well-earned and well-documented. Locals engage, converse, and connect with genuine warmth. You will have thousands of natural conversation opportunities — not manufactured classroom exchanges, but real human ones.

🏛️

History So Rich It Teaches You Without Trying

Cape Coast Castle. Elmina. Kakum. The Atlantic heritage route. Ghana's history is visceral, profound, and immediately present. Every cultural visit becomes a conversation. Every historical site provides vocabulary, context, and depth that no textbook can approximate.

💰

50–70% Cheaper Than UK, USA or Canada

A comparable 30-day immersion experience in England, Canada, or the United States easily costs $6,000–$12,000 once you factor in accommodation, tuition, flights, and living expenses. Ghana delivers a deeper, more authentic experience at a fraction of the cost — with better weather and more genuine human connection.

50–70% cost saving vs Western programs
✈️

Easy Access from Francophone West Africa

Short direct flights from Cotonou, Lomé, Abidjan, Dakar, Douala, and across the ECOWAS zone. ECOWAS citizens require no visa for stays up to 90 days. Ghana is geographically, culturally, and logistically the most accessible English immersion destination for West African participants.

No visa for ECOWAS citizens
🛡️

Safe, Stable, and Visitor-Friendly

Ghana consistently ranks among Africa's most stable and visitor-friendly nations. Accra is a modern capital with functioning infrastructure, international hospitals, safe transport, and a well-established tourism sector. You can focus entirely on your program without safety concerns.

🏙️

Modern Infrastructure, International Vibes

Accra has Uber, fast WiFi, international restaurants, shopping centres, ATMs, and all the conveniences of a modern city. You are not roughing it. You are immersing in a vibrant, functioning, internationally-connected African capital — which itself is an education.

🎵

Afrobeats, Art & Creative Energy

Ghana's cultural scene is electric. The creative energy of Accra — its music, its art, its fashion, its people — makes English absorption feel natural rather than effortful. Culture and language are inseparable here. When you enjoy where you are, you learn faster. That is simply how the brain works.

"I arrived terrified to open my mouth. Eleven minutes into Day 2, I was arguing about the price of tomatoes in a Makola market — in English. By Day 10 I was holding a conversation with a stranger for 40 minutes without thinking once about grammar. That's what immersion actually does. Nothing I had tried before came close."

"As a business owner trying to expand internationally, I'd been stuck. My English was functional but I lacked the confidence to close deals or negotiate in real time. Three months after Elite Ghana, I successfully closed my first international partnership — entirely in English. I credit the private teacher sessions specifically. Four hours of someone studying exactly how I speak changed everything."

"I was 22 and had spent three years studying English in school and barely spoke a word in practice. In 10 days in Ghana I spoke more English than in those entire three years combined. The Cape Coast trip in the 30-day program felt like it was written for me — I'd studied the history but living it, speaking through it in real conversation, made it permanent. I'm applying for a Master's program in Canada now."

"We came as three colleagues from the same company, all of us in roles that required regular English communication with European partners. Within six months of the Discover Ghana program, we had renegotiated our main UK contract — in English, without a translator, with our own words. Our managing director noticed. The program paid for itself several times over."

"I chose Elite Ghana because I needed privacy to focus and I wanted one-on-one time with a teacher who could identify specifically what was holding my English back. Worth every cent. I walked out of the program and three weeks later sat the IELTS speaking test. Seven point five. I had never scored above 5.5 in practice. Immersion does something to your brain that revision simply cannot."
🎯 Result: IELTS Speaking score of 7.5 — up from previous practice high of 5.5

"The Cape Coast portion of the national tour broke something open in me that had nothing to do with English. Standing at the Door of No Return and describing what I felt — in English, to a Ghanaian guide, surrounded by my cohort — was not a language exercise. It was something else entirely. I have never experienced anything like that in a learning program. It was the trip of my life and I learned English on the way."

FAQ

Every Question You Have
Answered Honestly

We've answered every question we've ever been asked — and a few we anticipate. If something isn't here, WhatsApp us directly. We respond fast.

The Program What happened to the host family program? Why was it discontinued?
The host family program was not discontinued because it failed — it evolved because we found something better. Our original premise was correct: living inside the language is the fastest way to learn it. But after running host family programs we identified the limitations: one household limits your English exposure to one set of people, one neighbourhood, one vocabulary set. The Akimeygo immersion programs preserve everything valuable about the host family concept — genuine human connection, real-life English, full immersion — while dramatically expanding the scale. Now you're not inside one home. You're inside an entire country. The warmth remains. The structure is professional. The scope is extraordinary.
Group Size We are only 2 people. Can we still apply? What are our options?
Absolutely. We have a clear solution for groups of exactly two, and it is an excellent one. Our standard programs require a minimum of 3 participants because they are designed around cohort dynamics. However, the Elite Ghana program was specifically designed to work beautifully for smaller private groups, and two people are an ideal size for it. You get private rooms, personal teacher sessions, a dedicated coordinator assigned only to you, and a premium experience that is actually better than what you'd get in a larger group. Your alternative is to apply as individuals to join an open cohort forming from participants in other countries — we can make that work too. Contact us and we'll guide you to the best option for your situation.
English Level My English is very basic. Am I too much of a beginner to benefit from this program?
Beginners are not just welcome — they are often who benefits the most dramatically. Here is why: immersion works at any level, but the contrast is most vivid when you start from a low base. When everything around you requires English and there is no option to retreat, your brain adapts at an extraordinary pace. We have seen complete beginners go from barely able to introduce themselves to holding 20-minute conversations in under two weeks. The Day 1 English assessment helps us understand where you are so that your teacher and coordinator can tailor the programme to your specific level. You do not need to be advanced. You just need to show up ready to try.
Meals Why are meals on tour days not included? Is this a cost-cutting measure?
This is a deliberate program design decision, not a budget measure — and it is one of the best features of the 30-day program. The 10-day national cultural tour takes you into coastal towns, historical sites, and local communities across Ghana. Eating at local restaurants, street stalls, and markets is itself an extraordinary immersion experience. You interact with vendors, read menus in English, describe what you want, navigate unfamiliar situations — all of which drives language acquisition faster than any structured lesson. Meals at local spots typically cost between $5–$15 per day, depending on your choices. Many participants tell us the tour meals were some of their most memorable English conversations of the entire program. We could include meals. We choose not to, because the experience without them is better.
Logistics Do ECOWAS citizens need a visa to enter Ghana?
No. Citizens of ECOWAS member states — including Benin, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Cabo Verde, and Nigeria — do not need a visa to enter Ghana for stays of up to 90 days. This makes Ghana exceptionally accessible for participants from across francophone West Africa. If you are travelling from outside the ECOWAS zone, visa requirements vary by nationality. We provide detailed guidance on the visa process for non-ECOWAS participants in your pre-arrival pack, and our team can assist with documentation guidance. Contact us if you're unsure about your specific situation.
Payment Can I pay in installments? How does the payment schedule work?
Yes, installments are available. Here is how it works: you pay your accommodation deposit to secure your spot and cohort date. After that, you and our team agree on a payment schedule for the remaining balance — structured to work within your financial situation. The only requirement is that your full balance is cleared no later than 14 days before your program arrival date. We understand that a lump sum payment can be challenging, and we want to make the programme accessible. We are flexible on the schedule as long as the final deadline is respected. When you apply, let us know that you'd like to discuss installments and we'll factor that into your booking confirmation.
Payment Is my deposit refundable if I need to cancel?
Our refund policy is based on how far in advance you cancel: if you cancel 60 or more days before your program start date, you receive a full refund minus a processing fee. If you cancel between 30–60 days before the start date, you receive a 50% refund. Cancellations under 30 days before the start date are non-refundable. In all cases, your deposit — and any other amounts paid — can be transferred to a future Akimeygo cohort date rather than refunded, and we always encourage this option if your situation changes. Life happens, and we work with you where we can. If you are unsure about your dates, talk to us before booking — we would rather help you choose the right date than have a cancellation on either side.
The Cohort Who else will be in my cohort? What are the other participants like?
Your cohort will typically consist of 3–12 participants from different countries across West Africa and beyond — a mix of nationalities, professional backgrounds, ages (18 and above), and starting English levels. This diversity is intentional and valuable. When you're learning with people from different backgrounds, you can't default to your shared native language. You must use English to connect, collaborate, and communicate — which is exactly the pressure that drives immersion results. The cohort dynamic is consistently cited by participants as one of the most valuable parts of the program. You arrive as strangers. You leave as people who shared something real. Some cohort friendships last years.
Communication I speak French but very little English. Can I still communicate with the Akimeygo team before arriving?
Completely. Our entire team speaks French fluently. All pre-arrival communication — your application, questions, booking confirmation, payment discussions, and coordination — can be conducted entirely in French. We understand that many of our participants are francophone West Africans whose English is still developing, and we would never make the application process an English test. Once you arrive, the program operates in English as the immersion experience begins. But until then, communicate with us in whatever language is most comfortable for you.
Value How is this different from taking English classes back home? Why should I go to Ghana?
The research on language acquisition is unambiguous: immersion produces results that classroom instruction cannot replicate at the same speed. Here is the core difference. In a local English class, you spend 2 hours a week in English and the other 166 hours in your native language. In Ghana, you spend all 168 hours in English — with real consequences if you don't communicate effectively. Your brain has no option but to adapt. Beyond speed of learning, consider what else the program delivers that a local class cannot: a 10-day national cultural tour, an official internationally-recognisable certificate, cohort friendships across countries, and a completely different quality of life experience. The Ghana program doesn't just teach you English. It gives you a story, a credential, and a confidence that no weekly lesson can manufacture.
